Photovoltaics and the Solar Rebound: Evidence from Germany

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Recent research suggests that households increase their electricity consumption after installing photovoltaic (PV) panels, a behavioral change commonly referred to as the solar rebound. Using panel data originating from German Residential Energy Consumption Survey (GRECS), we investigate existence of rebound effect. Our empirical results suggest PV adoption does not amount take grid. As derive theoretically, this implies is bounded above by about 50%, while back-of-the-envelope calculations lower bound 12% and an average 35%.

Heterogeneity in the Rebound Effect: Further Evidence for Germany

Rebound effects measure the behaviorally induced offset in the reduction of energy consumption following efficiency improvements. Using both panel estimation and quantile regression methods on household travel diary data collected in Germany between 1997 and 2009, this study investigates the heterogeneity of the rebound effect in private transport. With the average rebound effect being in the r...

Photovoltaics: solar cells on curtains.

Photovoltaic devices directly convert solar energy into electricity, and thus are highly attractive for a wide range of applications. Although the energy harvested by solar cell technology accounts for only about 0.04% of today’s global energy consumption1, it is one of the fastestgrowing energy sectors, in part because of the vast research and development efforts that have been undertaken in r...

Evidence from Germany

In many federations, fiscal equalization schemes soften fiscal imbalances across the member states. Such schemes usually imply that the member states internalize only a small fraction of the additional tax revenue from an expansion of the state-specific tax bases, while the remainder of the additional tax revenue is redistributed horizontally or vertically. We address the question as to which e...

Evidence from Germany

This paper empirically analyzes the relationship between migration and human trafficking inflows into Germany during the period between 2001 and 2010. My results suggest that migrant networks, measured by migrant stocks from a specific source country, have a causal linkage with the illicit, exploitative form of migration – human trafficking – from that respective country. However, the network e...
